LECTURE

INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOSHOP 2

On the third meeting of lecture which is held on 8 October 2024, Mr. Fauzi introduced us about Lasso Tool, Pen Tool, and Layering in Photoshop.

Lasso Tool
- similar to a pencil
- allow us to draw and pinpoint specific areas of a document
- when we click the Lasso Tool from the Toolbar, there will be 3 different tool options: Lasso, Polygonal Lasso, Magnetic Lasso.
- How to Use the Lasso Tool: https://youtu.be/DKtHsFaclKohttps://bit.ly/3uIrIUN

Pen Tool
- to create a path from scratch
- the fewer points, the smoother a path will be

The difference between lasso tool and pen tool
Pen tool: used to create extremely precise shapes based on vector paths
Lasso tool: allow you to manually draw any shape you would like

Layering
- definition: stacking different images on top of each other
- to use each layer without affecting another one to make adjustments

TUTORIAL

PATHS, MASKING, LAYERING

PRACTICAL

For this week, Mr. Fauzi gave 16 digital images for us to create digital collage.
Figure 2.1: Design Elements

First, I downloaded all the images given and chose an A4-sized artboard in Photoshop. Then I used the pen tool to select the part I wanted to keep and removed the excess. To adjust the image's position and size, I selected Command + T. After that, I placed the images  I chose one by one by doing layering.

Here is my three different composition:

Figure 2.3: Composition #2

Figure 2.4: Composition #3

From all the three options, Mr. Fauzi chose composition #3.

FEEDBACK

General Feedback
Mr. Fauzi told us to show him the 3 different arrangements of our collages, from which he would select the best one. We weren't allowed to glue anything down yet, as we could still add elements for the final touch. Once our final design approved by Mr. Fauzi, then we could start gluing.

Specific Feedback
Mr. Fauzi suggested me to add an element to the eyes of the girl holding the camera, so that the focus point wouldn't be on her eyes.

REFLECTIONS

Experience
I enjoyed learning how to combine colors and elements in a collage and discovering learn to connect each elements so they are related to one another. I'm also excited to explore more about Adobe Illustrator as I want to improve my skills in digital design.

Observations
I noticed that using the pen tool requires more practice, as I found it quite difficult and new to me. However, I believe that I'll enjoy using it once I have mastered the technique.

Findings
I discovered that layering simplifies designing process and I find that being able to master Adobe Illustrator is by practicing often.
