BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY SHOOTING
Double Exposure
Refers to merging multiple images
Few other ways to create double exposure besides using a double exposure camera:
- Using the Tilt-Shift Effect: blur one of your photos instead of the entire image (Filter > Blur Gallery > Tilt-Shift)
- Create fake reflection: for example, raindrops and bokeh
- Experiment with simple portraits and details textured: combining something plain with something complicated = balanced result
- Convert your results to Black & White: A lack of color will strengthen the emotions in your double-exposure images.
- Work with silhoutte
- Pick two random photo: A lot of double exposures photography were happy accidents. Shoot interesting textures, shapes, and forms.
- Make simple objects look fascinating
- Use Shadow
Image Blending Mode
Figure 1.1: Blend Mode
A quick guide to combine the smoke to the image of the musicians:
- Select the Layer 1 (Fire) to be on top of the Background (Musicians)
- Go to the Blending Modes option
- Select "Screen"
- As a result, all of the pixels on the fire will be selected as Screen blending mode.

PRACTICAL
HEARST MANSION
In this assignment, we were instructed to remove the background from the Shazam image and position it into the Hearst mansion background. The goal was to blend the two images seamlessly, utilizing the following tools:
1. Quick Selection Tool
2. Layer Mask
3. Filters
4. Color Correction
This assignment is divided into 2 parts:
1a) Hearst Mansion & Shazam
1b) Hearts Mansion & Photo of Myself
1a) Hearst Mansion & Shazam
First, Mr. Fauzi instructed us to download the images he uploaded to Google Drive.
Figure 2.1: Images Given
To remove the background of the Shazam image, I used Quick Selection Tool. I zoomed in/out the picture by pressing Command (+) to zoom in and Command (-) to zoom out, which allowed more precise selections.
Figure 2.2: Using Quick Selection Tool
When using the Quick Selection Tool, I resized the brush for better accuracy in selecting the chosen areas. The resize button is on the top corner.
Figure 2.3: Resizing Brush
Once I had removed the background, I pasted the Shazam image to the Hearst Mansion background and resized it.
To match the color of the Shazam image with the background, I adjusted the color by going to Image > Adjustments > Match Color. Then, I changed the source to Hearst Mansion and the layer to Shazam, then I adjusted the luminance, color intensity, and fade.
Figure 2.4: Adjusting luminance, color intensity, and fade
Next, I created a new layer labeled 'Shadow' to add realistic shadows. Using the Brush Tool, I painted the shadow in black and slightly decrease the opacity. Then, I applied a Gaussian Blur by selecting Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and adjusting the radius to soften the shadow.
Figure 2.5: Adding Gaussian Blur
To create a reflection of the Shazam, I added another layer, copied the Shazam image and flipped it upside down, placing it directly beneath the original. Then, I used the Pen Tool to select the part of the reflection that I want to keep and unselect the part I want to delete. Then, I saved the path and load path as a selection. I then added a layer mask to the 'reflection' layer.
Figure 2.6: Using Pen Tool
To enhance the realism, I adjusted the brightness/contrast and hue/saturation of the 'reflection' layer by selecting Image > Adjustments and adjusting the brightness/ contrast and hue/saturation.
Figure 2.7: Adjusting Brightness/Contrast and Hue/Saturation
Lastly, I applied a Gaussian Blur to this layer as well in Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and adjust the radius.

1b) Hearts Mansion & Photo of Myself
For this part, I followed the same steps as in the previous Shazam image.

FEEDBACK
Mr. Fauzi said the result is good because I included the process of making it. He also mentioned that he loves my blog because it is well-organized.
REFLECTIONS
Experience
I am glad that I had this exercise, as it has made me more familiar with various Photoshop tools.
Observations
I learned how to effectively use the Quick Selection Tool, Layer Mask, Filters, and Color Correction. I discovered various techniques for enhancing designs and blending colors. This task taught me the importance of how to blend images' color seamlessly.
Findings
I found myself have a better understanding in using Photoshop tools since this was my first time using Photoshop.
