Experience
Throughout this module, I’ve experienced significant personal and creative growth. Tight deadlines and unfamiliar tasks pushed me to improve my time management and creative process. During Exercise 1, I felt overwhelmed creating eight typographic systems in a week and doubted my ideas. I even made backup layouts out of fear of rejection. But after Mr. Vinod reminded us that “getting an A means nothing if you learn nothing,” I started to value growth over perfection. That mindset shift encouraged me to take risks, trust my instincts, and explore ideas beyond what was expected, like choosing a carved painting for the 'Type and Play' task instead choosing something similar with the example given.
Then, during the wordmark project, I again felt frustrated and stuck. But after having a talk with Mr. Vinod, I stopped pressuring myself and treated the task as a creative exploration. Surprisingly, I began to enjoy the process more and came up with ideas more naturally. These experiences taught me that design should be approached with curiosity and confidence, not fear.
It didn’t stop there, Task 3 was extremely challenging for me and it left me feeling frustrated, as the time given to complete it was extremely limited. I did my best to manage my time and push through, but gratefully at the end I managed to finish the task on time.
Observations
Through these projects, I became more aware of the role of visual balance in layouts, especially in the 'Typographic Systems' task. I learned how important leading, alignment, and spacing are to successful design. In the 'Type and Play' task, I saw how giving meaning to visuals can greatly enhance a concept. I also noticed that my personal color preferences, usually muted, earth tones have limited my work. Through exploration, I realized that incorporating bold or unexpected color choices can significantly improve visual impact. This awareness has helped me expand my creative range.
Findings
I’ve discovered the importance of focusing on small details and refining my Adobe Illustrator skills. Compared to my first semester, I’ve made progress, though I still see plenty of room for improvement. Watching tutorials daily has helped me grow technically and creatively. Most importantly, I’ve learned that mistakes are not failures but learning opportunities. Embracing that idea has allowed me to take more creative risks and step out of my comfort zone. I now feel more confident generating unique ideas and exploring new approaches. These exercises didn’t just build my design skills, they helped me dig deeper into my own potential.
Thanks to Mr. Vinod’s guidance, I’ve come to value learning over grades and understand that personal growth is what truly lasts.
