TASKS

For our final project, we were assigned to create an animated video based on a poster we had previously designed. We had the option to work individually or in pairs. The objective was to transform the static poster into a motion design piece while maintaining its original concept, message, and visual style, and enhancing it through animation to make it more engaging and visually dynamic.

For this project, I chose to work solo, as I wanted to challenge myself and explore my own capabilities in developing the animation.

For the ingredients, I came up with the idea of having each item pop up one by one at a larger scale, then placing it onto the table. I also added a grandma character speaking to explain certain parts more clearly.

For the steps, my references is based on the Curry Recipe below. I planned to present each step individually, shown continuously, to make the process clearer.

(Playback Speed 2.00x)

Before beginning the animation process, I first created a sketch of the storyboard to plan the sequence of scenes.

For the overall color palette, I kept it consistent with my previous Project 1 Instructable Poster.

Moving on to Adobe After Effects, the motion graphics were mainly created using basic animation features. These included transform properties such as opacity, position, rotation, and scale to control the movement of the objects. Some animations, like the stove fire, also used the Puppet Tool to create a more dynamic effect.

During the animation process, there were some changes made from the original storyboard. For the steps section, I decided to present each step one by one instead of using an infographic format with cylindrical elements at the bottom.

Additionally, background music Vintage 1950s Capri Lemon Garden: Classic Italian Melodies & Soft Jazz was added to enhance the overall mood, along with several sound effects sourced from Pixabay to emphasize key moments.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 6
Mr. Martin like how the storyboard is presented really clear and in a simple way.

WEEK 7
Ingredients part when going to the table is too slow.

REFLECTION

This project was both challenging and enjoyable, from breaking down the information into smaller parts to animating each step of the pasta-making process. I found that designing information is essentially about simplifying content to make it easier to understand. I really enjoyed learning this method through analyzing and designing a recipe. I also realized that when creating a video with a large amount of information, pre-determining the timing and preparing a storyboard are crucial. I tried to view my video from the perspective of a first-time viewer, ensuring that the information flows clearly and is easy to follow. I am also quite satisfied with the final outcome. I was very grateful when Mr Martin extended the deadline, as it allowed me to complete my work on time.
